Burton Wins George Harris Memorial

On the Sunday of Nationals, the first event out would be Spectator Drags. Fred Adkins won in a Plymouth Duster over Pat Standley’s Chevrolet Impala.

The next event would be a 20-lap dirt figure 8 utilizing the Figure 8 course for the first time since the 2008 season. It would be a fun and exciting event with lots of thrills and spills, but it would be Pat Standley taking the win. Adam Whitaker would finish second with Aaron Spearling, Todd Frank and Jim Duke completing the top five.

The final event of the afternoon was the 75-lap George Harris Memorial for the Shiawassee Shores Pure Stocks. Steven Pelky lead the field down for the start. Pelky would set the pace in the early running, but Jake Thompson would do a masterful job handling traffic and would find himself  in the second position. By lap 16, Thompson would wrest the lead away from Pelky. At the halfway break on lap 38, the field pulled down and had to eat two hot dogs while the crews refueled and made air pressure adjustments. The race would resume with Thompson continuing to dominate. Thompson would hold the point, until a late race restart put Scott Beach right to the outside of Thompson. The two would race side-by-side until Thompson went around with two laps to go. This would line up Beach and Burton on the front row. Burton would get the run on the restart and claim the lead on lap 74 and would not look back as he went on to claim the George Harris Memorial. Beach was second with Duane Damon, Shaun Conner and Steven Pelky completing the top five.
