Dakota Carlson Wins Great Lakes Helicopters 100

A full field of 24 Outlaw Super Late Models lined up for their one and only appearance at the venerable 3/8s (.375) mile high banked oval of the Owosso Speedway. It would be a star studded front row, as Mike Root and Dakota Carlson led the field down to Chief Starter Jeremy Slayden’s green flag. Carlson would get the run on the outside of turn two and take command of the lead in the early running. An extended green flag run would show dominance from Carlson as Michael Simko made a run to the front of the field. Simko and Mt. Morris, Michigan’s Johnny Belott would have a spirited battle for the runner-up position as Simko nipped Belott at the line right before the caution flag flew. With scoring reverting back to the last completed lap, Simko would restart right behind Carlson. With the green flag falling, Simko would be right on the offensive, being relentless on the inside line, as Carlson kept steady in the upper lane. The drivers would have a back and forth battle, until the white flag fell. Coming off of turn two, Simko was underneath Carlson, when Carlson was forced to dive out of the way of a lapped car. The two drivers would make contact, all the way down into turn three, Carlson would break free and nip the Clarkston, Michigan native at the line. Simko would settle for second, with Eric Lee completing the podium finishers. Fast qualifier was Johnny Belott with a 14.831 as the mark
