In 2003 one of our well known Purestock drivers, Kyle Callahan, began racing. He has been driving the number 14 Purestock at many different tracks over the past 20 years and has raced within the Sportsman division, too. He is a die hard race fan from Midland, MI and has been following his family's footsteps within motorsports. Growing up Kyle’s Uncle and his dad (Dave) were always racing Late Models and Street Stocks. While growing up at race tracks, he was able to learn a lot from the other drivers in his family. He has since been able to use all of that knowledge to accomplish a Purestock championship in 2016, an Owosso Kart Speedway championship in 2013, he holds a track record, and during the 2022 race season he had 11 fast times! The competition within racing is Kyle’s favorite part. Along with all of the genuinely good people and life-long friends that he has made at the tracks. He looks up to his dad as an idol within motorsports. His dad has taught him everything he knows, from set up to how to run on the track. He has also taught him how to handle his losses. Kyle makes sure that when he takes a loss, he uses it to drive him to be better. Growing up within a racing family and becoming a racer himself means that Kyle has had his fair share at different tracks. However, out of all of the race tracks he’s made it to, Owosso Speedway is his absolute favorite. With the thrilling competition going three or four wide and the great groups of people that make it all happen every weekend. Kyle has been going to Owosso Speedway for 30 years now and he has so many memories surrounding the track, like playing on the playground before his dad went out to race, and nothing can stop that. It is what is going to keep bringing Kyle back through all of the great changes that are happening at Owosso Speedway. There are too many family and friends, the best competition is where he does his personal best, and he doesn’t beat up his car while doing so. Now, he has a beautiful baby girl named Kaci that he will get to see play on the playground and grow up around Owosso Speedway just like he did, But with a bit of a different look to it. Since the off-season has started Kyle has been working hard at Garber Chevy and watching a lot of Michigan football. Most of all, he and his wife (Courtney) have been re-navigating their daily life with a newborn. Race season will be a little different next year, but they are beyond happy with their new baby girl. Next year they plan on continuing with all of the success that Kyle has had lately and work on keeping it up. Kyle has an amazing familial support system that is there for him through every race he runs including his wife Courtney, his mom Diane, his daughter Kaci, and his dad Dave that all double as his race crew. He also has some great sponsors that help him have the supplies he needs to be able to race every weekend. His sponsors are: Midland Steel, Dan Doyle Racing Engines, Fast Lane Wraps, Steve and Liz Zimmerman, Finishline Seamless Gutters, and Wassmann Construction. We can’t wait to see how the 2023 season works out for Kyle and maybe one day, baby Kaci will follow the same footsteps and we’ll get to see her race at Owosso Speedway, just like her dad!
