Next up, within the Modified (#16) and the Late Model Sportsman (#2) division is Scotty Lamp II! Scotty, from Davison, MI, has been racing Modifieds for five years now, but he raced go-karts for 12. When it came to racing karts, he was pretty good at it. He even won a National Kart Championship at one point. Now that he's in the big leagues, he's got wins from the 2018 Whittemore invite and one of the Wheeler Trucking sponsored Friday Night Thunder Series races. Like many other racers, Scotty grew up watching his dad and his grandpa race. His grandfather (Frank) actually made it into the Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame after a great racing career. Naturally, Scotty thinks of his grandpa as his idol, due to his success and the fact that he is a well-known driver. There is no doubt that Scotty loves racing, but his favorite part of it all is the competition, mainly within the Modified division because there are so many great drivers and cars. He is a great sport too. When he loses a race that he thought he was going to win, he doesn't get mad or upset, he uses it as a lesson to learn from and get better. Scotty's life revolves around the sport of racing. He spends his off-season mostly on iRacing, which is a motorsports game simulator. That is true dedication to learning all aspects of racing even outside of race season, if I do say so myself. New Smyrna Raceway in Florida is Scotty's favorite track because of the high rates of speed and the high banking. However, just like Owosso Speedway, it is a real "racey" track and there is plenty of room to get around other drivers without causing a wreck. It's part of the reason that he plans on racing more at Owosso Speedway next year. That, and he is excited to experience the brand new, proven grounds and all of the changes that are coming along with the new ownership and management. Next season, we can expect to see Scotty continue racing in his #16 Modified, but he also plans to race his #2 Late Model as much as possible at Owosso Speedway. His race cars are sponsored by Kirtland Automotive Tech, Fox Auto, Bob's House of Speed, and the State Building Co. Along with his race crew consisting of Bob Oaks, his dad, and Eric Morgan, who all make sure to show up to his races and help. With all of the help and recognition that Scotty has had so far, maybe one day he will be in the hall of fame just like his grandfather.
