Another driver that I have interviewed is Nick Clemens. He is the #21 Modified driver from Clio, MI. He raced Quarter Midgets for six years and has raced in the Modified division for the past 20 years. He has also raced Outlaw Super Late Models and Thunder Trucks. Nick Clemens has seven championships under his belt, so far (6 of which are in the Modified division), including the 2015 Top Speed Modified North Division championship. He says that since he started racing, he has acquired between 60-70 feature wins, one of which was the 2022 championship and 2022 Owosso Speedway Nationals in his newly built Modified!
Nick, like many others, grew up within racing. His family has been around racing for decades now and he followed the lead from his dad and grandpa into the world of motorsports. There is so much to love about the sport of racing that calls to us every Saturday night, but Nick's favorite parts are the people you meet and the challenge that racing brings. He says that there is always something new and it is challenging, but that you get to experience it all with some of the best people around. His favorite track to experience it all is Owosso Speedway! He feels that with the ability to race 2 and 3 cars wide, it is "actual racing." However, racing isn't always the great feature wins to end the night, although he has plenty of those too. There are times he has taken a hard loss, but in his opinion, there is no room for crying about it. To him, you have to have a worker's mentality and get right into getting the car fixed in order to be better for the next race. It is the way that Nick plans on heading into the 2023 season, too.
He is continuing to work on the new race car and be fully committed to Owosso Speedway. His dedication to Owosso Speedway is all because of the great racing that the historic track holds and the improvements that the new asphalt will make on what was already some great racing. Also, the new management that has been working hard to make the racing experience great for both drivers and spectators. It's no secret that a great racer is nothing without the help from an even better crew and group of sponsors, and Nick has just that. While he works mostly as a one-man band, he has some amazing support from his dad (Dusty), wife (Allison) and daughter (Jaelyn). As well as all of his sponsors: O'guinn Family Funeral Homes, Superior Monuments, Paws to Remember, Morse Farms, Genesee County Herald, Fast Racing Designs, and Rhyne Competition Engines. We can't wait to see Nick back at Owosso Speedway to kick off an incredible 2023 season!
