Riley Jernigan is going to be a brand new driver for us in the 2023 season. She is a 14-year-old from Morrice, MI, and will be getting her start in the Front Wheel Drive class as number 51! While she may not have the hands-on experience that everyone else has with racing, she will be racing with her mom and her sister, creating our very own mother-daughter-daughter trio. It’s going to be interesting watching the three of them battle it out against each other in the same class every Saturday night!
Riley decided that she wanted to try her hand at short track oval racing after watching her mom (Bobbi Jo) and her sister (Kenedi) absolutely fall in love with the sport. Her grandpa raced too, and she has always loved the environment at race tracks and the experiences that go along with it, so why not? Riley knows that this is going to be a huge learning curve and she might not get a win right out of the gate. However, whenever she gets a loss, she plans on trying her best to not be too sad about it and get right into gathering advice about what to do better.
Riley is super excited for the 2023 race season to start and to try out this new venture in her young life! She has gotten the chance to watch her big sister and her mom learn and grow, and now it’s her turn to join them. Her mom, Bobbi Jo, is her idol and the one that she aspires to be like. Riley has been able to watch her race since the first time Bobbi Jo went out and she has seen all of the progress she has made and is extremely proud of her mom.
While she is having a great time playing in sports like volleyball during our off-season, she is even more excited about how fast race nights are approaching. I have no doubt that she will be a natural, just like Bobbi Jo and Kenedi, and will have a great racing career ahead of her!
