United State Senate, State of Michigan and Shiawassee Co Award Owosso Speedway and Wheeler Family for Contribution to Regions Economic Development!
Durand MI - Owosso Speedway Owners Rex and Sarah Wheeler and Owosso Speedway Staff were honored to receive several awards on 01/25/23 at the Shiawassee Economic Develpment Partnership Annual Meeting for 2023.
"The SEDP Project of the Year awarded annually to a new or expanding business in Shiawassee County that has created a significant impact on the local community. Certainly, the Owosso Speedway has already had a significant impact on the area and has also shown how economic development and community building is able to go hand in hand. Iconoclastically going against the national grain, Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler reduced gate prices to allow more spectators to be able to enjoy these events. To make entertainment even more accessible, the Owosso Speedway even eliminated entrance fee's for those under the age of 20. This commitment to providing affordable family fun activities is also fostering a new generation of race goers with every checkered flag. The passion and investment the Wheeler family has put into Owosso Speedway has made the track a regional destination and at the same time helped boost other local businesses through ancillary economic activity.
IN SPECIAL TRIBUTE, Therefore, this document is signed and dedicated to the Owosso Speedway and the Wheeler family for being recognized as a well deserving honoree of the Shiawassee Economic Development Program. We commend their efforts to impact the community, and wish them many more years of success." is imprinted on a special framed award presented to the group yesterday in Durand.

"We're very proud of the recognition by County, State, and United States Government Officials on the positives that Motorsports, and specifically Short Track Racing can provide to it's community. The Wheeler family deserves these awards for their investment into short track racing. I'd also like to point out that the hard work that Promotor Jody Freeman Hoffman and Desiney Biston are putting in out in the Regional community has been noticed by area officials and the community. Jody has worked hand in hand with Kimberly Springsdorf of the Shiawasee County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Together they have gotten a big push with the Pure Michigan Campaign and are utilizing Motorsports at the Owosso Speedway as a destination point for tourism in the Region. Justin Horvath is always on the go in our community and providing positives about the Owosso Speedway and business related to the Speedway. The Speedway was fortunate to have a representative from Senator Stabenows office present, and Sam Singh, State Senator from the 28th District and Brian BeGole, State Representative of the Seventy First District." Remarked Owosso General Manager Jeff Parish. "We are blessed to have the tools available that Rex and Sarah have given us. It's a once in a lifetime chance to place an icon destination like Owosso Speedway on rock solid ground for decades to come. We will work hard to make it a place where tens of thousands get to experience Owosso Speedways fantastic racing for generations to come."
