POLICY UPDATES AND 6/3 ITINERARY

The Owosso Speedway has had opportunity to get a few shows in this 2023. We've learned a lot along the way. With our beautiful new racing surface, it has brought some changes. With the type of asphalt mix we have on the surface, it has been resistant to quick absorbent of surface contaminants after a blow up, spill or collision. In our industry, NAPA white has been the floor dry of choice by safety teams for over a decade. Napa white is not picking up contaminants quickly. It's leaving remnants that have left the surface slicker than we or drivers have felt great about. We have contacted the floor dry spreader manufacturer, and got with them about which absorbents are used at the nations highest professional level tracks to incorporate quick absorbency with newer asphalt surfaces. We ordered a pallet of this new type today, in an effort to quicken up the pace to getting back to racing action in a safe effective way.
We have noticed through the course of the evening, that our track increases speed as the night goes on. This is uncharacteristic as well. Most races on the clock are 3 tenths slower than qualifying unless someone gets out all alone. Our track so far is gaining speed with the temp drop. We are keeping an eye on this. We will watch for anomalies in the data, to prevent people from working the clock to gain an advantage in starting position. If a car is breaking out of their time, and the rest of the field is not, then we will still take action to prevent sandbagging. We have added a provision in the rule book, that did not exist in the past, that protects the top 3 in qualifying in traditional racing exempting them from breakout. The rule is .25 seconds. That is the most generous allowance of all Michigan tracks printed rules. We will watch the divisions lap times as a whole and compile data to produce a gradient scale for extreme temp drop. Until we have more nights in, that will be an ongoing study, to compile more data. In the ABC sport compact division - the top 3 in the A division will be exempt from breaking out. In the b and c divisions, we will still be keeping a hard eye on all competitors. if the division as a whole is staying about the same, or slightly faster, and someone is .3 or .4 tenths or more faster than they qualified, then we still are throwing the caution and putting them to the tail. After that time, they are not eligible to break out again, it will be heads up racing. We have been in discussion with area tracks about their rules regarding this type of racing, and the inspections, and methodology and will be continually refining what we have, to get to a good workable rules package for our region and our new racing surface.
